Conducted a workshop "Swachha Tan, Swachha Mann" with the vibrant children of Palna, aged 4 to 9 years. Truly humbled by the opportunity to experience the place so closely. Thank you Ruchika for all the efforts. The impeccable bond that children and the staff share just touches your soul. I believe that the unconditional dedication and love that is being showered on the children will definitely help them grow in life.
PS-Please consider Palna for donations. They accept eatables only from Sethi Bakery, Kamla Nagar. It will be a good idea to discuss the needs of the children with a staff member prior to bringing stuff for them, so that you can help them with what they actually need. Jump to. Dear brothers and sisters, I am putting this words to inform you that I have a son 9months old.
Me basically from south India. Unable to live in north Indian family.Presenting Palna - Mr. Mark Turly
Before anything happens to me. I pray and wish my child reach in a safe hands… He is precious for me than anything. Help me….We have seen many a Bollywood film where a helpless mother leaves her crying infant outside a home or religious institution and vanishes into thin air. While those infants usually grow up to be Amitabh Bachchan, have you ever wondered if this happens in real life?
And what happens to those unfortunate children left abandoned? After completing her Masters in History of Education in Holland she is now an educational consultant organizing workshops for teachers doing Bachelor of Education in Holland. Today, Asha might be a Dutch national but she traces her roots back to Delhi, India, where she was born and abandoned. She was adopted by her current Dutch parents when she was barely 5 months old.
Today she is a successful professional in Holland but says she has two homes — one at Palna and one in Holland.
Recently, when she was in Palna she organized a small excursion to Pratapgad Farms and took around 30 children for a picnic there. So far she has sent about euros besides clothes and toys. She explains:. The forming of DCCW dates back to the time of partition when many children got lost or misplaced during the riots. The families living along the Civil Lines used to take care of these children.
They did all that was required for these children. We used to work with various agencies and through this day care centre adoptions used to take place. Later the Government came up with a regulation to have a license for placing children in adoption.
Palna is a haven of peace, security and stability for the children who come here. Today on an average Palna looks after children daily ranging in the age group of newborns to 8-year-olds. The emphasis in Palna is on total care. We at DCCW believe that a child does not belong in an institution, but in a family. The first effort is to trace the family and restore the child to its birth parents.
When it is established that the child is abandoned or has not been claimed by its family, all efforts are made to place it in adoption. Over the last three decades the organization has placed over children in loving families, selected after rigorous screening and evaluation procedures.
Once the cradle or Palna as they call it was kept out, DCCW officials also realized that a lot of parents left their disabled or mentally challenged child there. An increasing number of children with cerebral palsy and children with multiple disabilities had started to come to the Orthopaedic Centre at Janakpuri for help and advice. Today, Bal Chetna comprises residential facilities for homeless mentally challenged infants at Palna, as well as day care facilities for children from economically backward families at Janakpuri, New Seemapuri, Nithari and Sultanpuri in Delhi. It is a haven of peace, security, and stability for the children who are taken care of here.
This is how DCCW receives most of the children. Occasionally, families may come to the home to relinquish their children. As soon as a child is placed in the cradle, a siren is immediately activated, and a nurse comes to take the child in. Today, on an average, PALNA looks after 60 - 75 children, ranging in age from new-borns to 8-year-olds. As soon as a child comes to PALNA, he or she is taken to the in-house medical crisis unit for a thorough medical check-up and is treated by the doctors as required.

Only after it is established that the child is abandoned, all efforts are made to place the child in adoption. Over the last three decades, DCCW has placed over children in loving families, selected after rigorous screening and evaluation procedures. Infants often arrive in a precarious state of health — low birth weight, hypothermic, babies with trauma and congenital defects or mentally challenged. Survival is the immediate challenge for a newborn.
We have a team of dedicated round-the-clock doctors, nurses, and caregivers, and our medical crisis unit has all the necessary equipment to handle emergencies among infants and new-borns. The cost to take care of a child on an average comes approximately INR per month.
This includes their stay, food, clothes, and medical care. Read on to discover how. I have undertaken this campaign because I think being able to impact the lives of infants and abandoned children by funding their stay, food, education, clothes and medical care at PALNA is incredible. It will give them confidence and a wonderful life. As an individual, I am trying to raise INR or more to impact a child for a month or more.
Let us make a difference together. If we collect more funds we could support more children at PALNA or the same child for a longer duration. The Council first started its work providing care to children who had been displaced, lost or abandoned in the riots surrounding the Partition of India.

Click on the link on the email and you can read about which child benefitted. That's transparent right. It will take from 1 to 3 months after that to get details of fund use. It takes up to 2 weeks after the campaign is closed for the monies to be transferred to NGO. The receipts will start getting processed about 4 to 6 weeks AFTER the campaign is closed and will be sent to you directly.

Log out?We are committed to providing programmes and services aimed at caring for and developing under-privileged children in and around Delhi. We achieve this through effective programmes in the areas of nutrition, medical services, vocational training, care of abandoned children, adoption, rehabilitation of mentally and physically challenged children, and providing day-care and non-formal education.
The main criteria in most of the activities is the financial status of the families whose children avail of DCCW services as our programmes cater only to poor under-privileged children. Today, these services reach over children daily and are provided virtually free of cost to them.
All our programmes run on donations. There are typically about children at any given point of time. Many children arrive in a precarious condition and our first priority is getting them on the road to good health. They are cared for in a home-like environment, with a focus on their physical, mental as well as emotional development, and once they are well and stable, efforts are made to place them in adoption with a suitable family.
The Orthopaedic Centre was set up in to provide total rehabilitation to physically challenged children from under-privileged families. The services provided include corrective surgery, pre- and post-operative care, provision of aids, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and counselling.
To date : - Over 9, corrective surgeries have been performed - Over 27, children have been fitted with aids. Bal Chetna is our programme for the rehabilitation of mentally challenged children. The day care programme was started based on the input of our staff that there were many children with mental disabilities living in slums and resettlement colonies whose parents were unable to provide them the attention that they needed.
We have three day-care running in Delhi where these children are provided with all necessary therapies as well as proper nutrition. The aim of this programme is top prepare young, underprivileged children in the age group 2 to 6 years to attend mainstream schools, and the results to date have been excellent.
The demand for this program is continuing to increase as it is gaining popularity by word of mouth.
The Educational Sponsorship Programme provides financial support, guidance, counselling and health check-ups to about academically bright school-going children from low income families, every year. The objective of the programme is to keep children from dropping out of school.
DCCW runs year-long Vocational Training Programme for approximately adolescent girls, as well as some physically and mentally challenged girls and boys, every year, to teach them income-generating skills such as tailoring, beauty culture and computers. There are typically over participants every year across the various centres operating across Delhi. The Supervised Homework Scheme reaches out to around underprivileged children in classeswho need academic assistance to keep up with their school work.
These children cannot get the help they need from their families, and therefore tend to drop out of schools as they are unable to cope. Here teachers help them with their homework and clarify their doubts. The programme helps these children get an education, proper nutrition and medical care. What we do.
